The Urpi Global Classroom Exchange Grant supports student-led academic exchanges between students at public universities and public colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area and students or participants in Latin American countries.

Unless a specific call states otherwise, the exchange will take place virtually.

The selected student grantee will organize and moderate the exchange with the support of a faculty member, Urpi Collective, and the participating educational institution, program, or community partner in Latin America.

The student grantee will help:

• coordinate the exchange;

• prepare their class or academic group;

• learn about the participating students, institution, or organization;

• develop questions and discussion themes;

• introduce participants;

• moderate the virtual conversation;

• encourage dialogue among participants; and

• reflect on the learning generated through the exchange.

The purpose of the grant is to give students practical experience in organizing and facilitating an international academic exchange while creating opportunities for students in the San Francisco Bay Area and Latin America to learn from one another.

Urpi seeks exchanges based on reciprocity and mutual learning. Students on both sides should have opportunities to ask questions, share knowledge and experiences, and contribute to the conversation.

Each annual or project-specific call will identify:

• the participating Latin American country;

• the partner institution, program, or organization;

• the theme of the exchange;

• language requirements;

• student eligibility;

• grant amount;

• application requirements; and

• any additional expectations.
