Global Classroom Exchange Grant

The Urpi Global Classroom Exchange Grant supports student-led academic exchanges between students at public universities and colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area and students or participants in Latin America.

Selected students gain experience organizing and moderating an international academic conversation while creating opportunities for reciprocal learning, dialogue, and exchange across borders.

Unless otherwise stated in a specific call, exchanges take place virtually and are organized with the support of Urpi Collective, a faculty member, and a participating institution or community partner in Latin America.

World Language & Community Writing Grant

The Urpi World Language & Community Writing Grant supports World Language teachers at public high schools who want to develop creative writing projects that connect language learning with social justice, human rights, culture, identity, memory, and community.

The grant supports a teacher in guiding students to create original writing in the language they are studying. Student work may include poetry, short stories, personal or community narratives, oral histories, collaborative writing, bilingual or multilingual work, or other forms of creative expression.

An important goal of the fellowship is to bring student voices beyond the classroom. During the school year, the selected teacher will work with students to develop their writing and create a final opportunity to share their work with the school or broader community through an anthology, reading, publication, exhibition, performance, digital project, or another appropriate format.

The Grant is open to World Language teachers currently teaching at public high schools. Priority will be given to teachers working in schools and communities with limited access to funding for arts, creative writing, cultural programming, World Language enrichment, and other educational opportunities.

Urpi especially encourages applications from teachers working in public schools serving predominantly low-income or historically under-resourced communities.
